‘See that fountain’ said Billy. ‘grandad said you have good luck if you throw three coins at it’.
‘Really?’ said Ollie.
‘Yes, he did it somewhere beginning with I and turned around and trod on a pretty girl’s toe and they got married’
‘But your Gran isn’t pretty she’s old and wrinkled’.
‘She wasn’t then. In their wedding photo, she looks like a princess’.
‘Let’s see if we can be lucky’ said Ollie. ‘I’ve got one penny, have you got two more?’
‘No, I’ve got a two pence piece. That makes three pence altogether, so that’ll do’.
They threw the coppers at the fountain and waited.
‘No luck yet’ said Ollie.
‘No’ said Billy, ‘granddad probably made it up. Let’s play football.
Ollie kicked the ball into the air just as Lucy appeared from behind a bush. It hit her on her shoulder.
‘Ouch, that hurt’ she shouted.
‘Now I’ll have to marry you’ giggled Ollie.
‘You’ll be lucky’ she said as she threw the ball in the lake and walked on by.
