A-Z Challenge Day 14

Post 1954. Monday April 16

My Friend Rosey has regularly featured on my blog since I set it up twelve years ago. To read all about her in 200 or so words, click HERE

Rosey dragged me along to an art gallery. “You need a bit of culture,” she said.

She didn’t, however, anticipate viewing painting after painting of Rubenesque ladies with their kit off! She tutted and said it was unfair all the nude paintings depicted women. I jokingly pointed to a sign on the wall that said ‘Men’. She smiled and strutted off in the direction of the arrow.

“ Rosey” I called out, “stop….”  But it was too late. Seconds later she found herself standing before the door to the gentlemen’s toilets!

On her way back she spotted some tutorial books. One was about painting nudes! ‘Time to make a stand for women’ she thought. She purchased it.

I called round to hers last Sunday. She answered the door wearing a paint-splattered linen jacket, gripping an artist’s brush between her teeth and clutching a dripping paint-daubed palette.

“Come in”  she spitted. I wiped the splatters of duck egg blue from my cheeks and followed her.

Just inside her kitchen stood an easel supporting a large canvas on which were the beginnings of a painting of a nude Adonis. It was blocking the view, so I gingerly peered around it, nervous of what I might see.

And there was her model, reposing on the work surface. A little Action Man doll, as naked as the day he popped out of his mould.

“Are you busy this afternoon by any chance?” she asked.

Hi Keith – oh gosh I’d have thought she’d have managed to get someone to pose – something like strip poker … dear Rosey – she’ll be happy … you …. well we will see!! Cheers Hilary

Strip poker – that reminds of another of Rosey’s escapades! But no, she had to make do with what was at hand and I’m saying no more! Thanks Hilary

… at hand … ??? It’s a very wet morning here … my mind must not slip – even with pottery slip to hand … perhaps she’d like to sculpt?! Gave me a smile …

There’s always something new with Rosey isn’t there ? Making me smile on a Monday morning is quite a skill Keith and you have it.

She will pop up from time to time as she has regularly for the last twelve years. I’m really happy you are enjoying them.

No need to share that particular painting Keith, we’ll survive without it I’m sure 🙂

Haha! This was pure gold, Keith. Right from the ‘MEN’ sign to the nude Action Man figure. You (and Rosie) have a way of tickling our ribs. Nicely tickled 😀

Varad, that is so kind of you. Whilst I might occasionally tickle ribs, Rosey is more likely to poke them, hard, so beware!

Ack – Don’t do it, Keefie! The doll will do just fine.
The only thing better than the chuckles you provide are all the surprises that deliver them. Highly enjoyable, Keith !

The doll had a far finer physique than I even though it was only a lump of plastic! Thank you so so much for your extremely kind words.

Oh I just never know what Rosey will be up to next. Nor you, I suppose, with this new job of yours. I’m looking forward to whichever future letter reveals the show where she reveals her latest art creation.

Even after all these years, Rosey never fails to surprise me!I can’t think of a suitable letter with which to reveal her masterpiece, so it may go unseen!

I started this post with one eye closed, not sure what Rosey would be up to. She’s my kind of gal, Keith!

When I was an art student in the 1960s, the only male model who posed completely nude was an elderly gentleman. He never posed for my class, but our most interesting models were those who were outside the model “norm”.

I’ve only once done a nude model drawing. It certainly had more features than a nude action man (the ones my brother had as a kid generally lost arms and legs after a while).

Har! Har! Nude paintings are a great investment in a bare market.
